Afscheid / Parting ways

We still have more than a month until our departure from the Netherlands but the goodbyes have already begun.. the summer vacation starts on the 4th of July for our kids and many of our friends so it’s so sweet that many dear friends have taken the time to see us for one last drink / laugh / hug before we start our adventure in August.

How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.

Thursday evening I was swept off to the Sojubar restaurant in Breda for cocktails, dumplings, and Korean Fried Chicken with Joyce, Jeanette, Ankie, and Suzanne, all friends from Roosendaal.

Friday was an IBA team reunion to celebrate Stella’s birthday and to get everyone together one last time before our departure. It was one of those nights I didn’t want to end — good convos, amazing food, happy kids..  I kept it together until Isabelle read out loud the first page of the journal Stella gave her to take to Sardinia. Such sweet, thoughtful gifts and words from everyone.. once the tears started they really couldn’t stop..

Saturday was my last tennis game and drinks with the Hexpats, my tennis team from the Haagse Beemden. We were cooking in 30+ degree heat but cooled down afterwards with some Blonden Os and a bottle of cava that we popped open after Merrilee read the Ode aan Raechel poem that she wrote — again, so sweet!
The weekend concludes today with a drive to Roosendaal for Damon’s birthday party. Not an afscheidsfeest but I will surely wipe away more tears as I know I’m really going to miss celebrating the boys’ birthdays with the Peeters’ clan twice a year.

If anyone can relate to the heartache of saying goodbye and leaving loved ones behind, it’s Emma. And as she reminded me Friday,
You leave a piece of your heart everywhere you go. ❤️
